Operation Christmas Basket a success!
This year’s fundraiser raised close to $8,500.00 of which every penny went to Local Charities to purchase toys and food for needy Union families during the holidays. This year the proceeds were split among the following charities: Sacrament Food Bank & Family Services, Roberts Family Development, Center for Workers Rights and the Sacramento Central Labor Council Toys & Food Drive.
The winners of Operation Christmas Basket were:
1st Place – $1,500 – Ms. Andrea Perez (Nor-Cal S&C JATC)
2nd Place – Shotgun – Elite Power (Brother Walt Zacharias re-donated this prize back to the Raffle!)
3rd Prize – Lottery Tickets – Inside Apprentice Brother Rob McClung
The Member Raffle was also a huge success that night and I want to thank Brother Jon Thompson for donating two of his freehand plazma torch art pieces for this raffle. The winners of these two pieces were Brother Edward Chiara and Brother Ken Irwin, both depicted the IBEW fist and lightning bolts.
Thank you to the Business Office Staff, our Local Officers and several rank and file members who stepped up to help with the Christmas membership meeting. I also noticed Brothers Justin Bowen, Jim Hegarty and Jim Strain helping out quite a lot that night.
Also, if you were one of the members who donated to our own Holiday food and toy drive, I can tell you that the Local 340 members who received your donations a few days before Christmas were very appreciative and humbled by your generosity
SOUND & COMMUNICATIONS MEETING
The 9th District Sound & Communications Agreement for Northern California Addendum #2 has been ratified. Since Local 340 had extended Addendum 2C for 90 days waiting on the completion of that agreement, we have now returned to the negotiations table with your surveys and suggestions and will be contacting all Local 340 Sound & Communications members real soon regarding a discussion and vote meeting date.
MONTHLY BASIC DUES INCREASE – ALL ACTIVE MEMBERS
Don’t forget, all members’ basic dues increased by $1.00 effective with January 2018 dues. Be sure you remit the correct amount when paying your dues.
SCHOLARSHIPS
IBEW Local 340 Harry R. Bain Scholarship Award –For Dependents
IBEW Local 340 is once again going to award two college scholarships in 2018 ($1,000.00 and $500.00). IBEW Founders Scholarship – For IBEW members (not dependents)
The IBEW Founders’ Scholarship honors the dedicated wiremen and linemen who organized the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers on November 28, 1981. Each year the officers of the IBEW are pleased to offer its working members scholarships on a competitive basis. It is hoped that the awards will not only contribute to the personal development of our members but also steward the electrical industry that our founders envisioned.
The award is for $200 per semester credit hour at any accredited college or university toward an associate’s, bachelors or postgraduate degree in an approved field. The maximum distribution is $24,000 per person over a period not to exceed eight years.
Any member interested in applying for the IBEW Founders Scholarship can do so by going on-line at www.ibew.org. Click on “Resources and Links” at the top, scroll down to the box labeled “Founders Scholarship”. You will receive information on this scholarship as well as be able to download the application. These applications can also be picked up at the Business Office. This scholarship is for any member who has been in continuous good standing and paid dues (without an Honorary Withdrawal for the four years prior to May 1, 2018). This is not a scholarship for your dependents. All applications and required information must be mailed directly to the IBEW in Washington, DC and must be postmarked May 1, 2018.
