MDVC Rebranding
After many discussions, ideas, and planning, we have decided it was time for a rebranding and revamping of our previous volunteer group. As the old saying goes, “out with the old and in with the new”. Our previous group, MDVC (Membership Development Volunteer Committee) has served us well but like with many things during COVID, it fell to the wayside and it was a struggle to pick back up. We have since had help from our Politcial Affairs advisor: Erin Teague, Office Reps: Matt Nootenboom and Mike Franklin, PAC advisor: Noah Painter, and Membership Development assistant Salma Valdez along with hand selected Active members have created VOLT (Volunteer, Outreach, Leadership Team). Currently we are fine tuning our new logo and will be ordering new shirts but we plan to reach out to previous members who have signed up in the past under MDVC and get them ready for any and all events occurring both in the local and in the upcoming political season. Thank you to all those who participated in the creation of this new group and Will McKee for the new name. We look forward to a fresh start.
PICNIC
We are inching closer to our Annual Membership Picnic. Earlier in June we reached out to those who volunteered in the past a sign-up sheet via Evite. There are still plenty of spots open for members to help volunteer, we hope to reach as many members as possible to help make this event another one for the books. We also sent out in early July our Evite and almost immediately our RSVP jumped up to over 500. There has been a lot of behind the scenes planning this year more than usual but if you haven’t been on a list or received any emails about volunteering please do not hesitate to reach out to Reyna via email at reyna@ibewlocal340.org or via phone at 916-539-0412.
NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION
The next scheduled New Member Orientation class will be held on September 17th. We have mailed out notices to those who missed the last class. The class is scheduled at the hall for 5 PM. If you reside in the Northern area, please note your class will be in the Redding Hall. We encourage members to bring their spouses or significant others as this is a very informative class where many topics are discussed and reviewed. We hope to see you all at the next class.

NEBF – RETIREE TEMPORARY RETURN TO WORK NOTICE
To help with the Journeyman Inside Wireman and Sound & Communication Installer manpower shortage that all IBEW Locals are experiencing, NEBF has once again changed the working rules for Retirees. If you are currently retired and would like to go back to work for about 3 months or perhaps take some short calls, this temporary Return to Work Amendment changes the suspension rules for certain eligible retirees. Following are the features of the amendment:
- The temporary amendment is effective from January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2024.
- All normal and early retirees with a pension effective date of December 2022 or earlier will be permitted to return to covered and contributory employment only and will be permitted to work for up to 600 hours during the above period without a loss of NEBF benefits. This amendment applies only to the NEBF Plan. (In order to receive benefits from other funds it will depend on the rules of those funds.)
- Once an individual has worked for 600 hours in covered and contributory employment during the term of the temporary amendment, the individual will no longer be able to take advantage of this amendment and the normal rules (permitting work in the electrical industry for less than forty (40) hours per month without a suspension of benefits) will apply.
- Disability pensioners are not eligible (the existing rules applicable to disabled pensioners remain in effect).
- Only retirees who return to NEBF covered and contributory employment will be able to take advantage of this amendment – this amendment will not apply to persons who work for covered employers where no NEBF contributions are required or to persons who work for non-covered employers in the electrical industry.
